Note: This article is the last part of a series on Love by drippingmind.
[Amidst the fading darkness, light slowly creeps in as the whole world stir back to life. Facing my window with a dim candlelight as my company, I patiently sat, waiting for the dawning of yet another day. I marveled at the silence of this unholy hour. With a deep breath, I allowed the stillness of this dreamy world to embrace my whole being. The starlit sky sparkle as my gaze roams its unlimited vastness. With a cup of newly brewed coffee, my mind drifted away to freely roam, seek and capture the realities that my inner self seeks. At this point of time, I am in a state of trying to dissect the way things had been in my life, in connection to the present time, which paves the way to the future. Slowly, my mind drifts and glides in the stream of thoughts that steadily flows within me. Some situations keep playing on in my brain that I can’t help but really try to understand the realities hidden from these thoughts. With uncertain reason, Love is the theme of the moment. Let me try to paint different angles and faces of this “gift” that keeps the world go round...Over the years, great minds tried to unravel the mystery that surrounds this thing we call," Love". Studies were made as philosophers, theologians and others try to simplify its complexity. Truly, there are outlined meanings, categories, kinds, and other means to explain it that we can find in books and other materials....]
As I dive deep down into the realm of my mind, I drifted to revisit circumstances and phases in my life wherein love played a major role. As I traveled back in time, there are packets of memories that slowly came back to life. Strings of kaleidoscopic canvass of colors and shapes fill my mind. Memories paraded in my thoughts like structures that vary from simple to complex, like canvasses that flashed and paraded. Each one is unique, different from the other. However, the common denominator that binds these strings of canvasses is Love. Truly, the soul of each canvass of memory that I can think of at this time has Love written all over it.
In so many places and time, love come into our lives, in different manners and circumstances. Sometimes, we come to know Love in a pleasant, unhurried way, sweet and uncomplicated. Sometimes, we’re hit by it in an abrupt manner that we are caught unaware in the process. Love may come in a certain circumstance, sometimes favorable, sometimes not. Sometimes, its complexity is so enormous that others may chose to retreat and wallow in pain, bitterness, or fear instead of having the strength and courage to endure the hardship to beat the odds that goes with it, and eventually to reap its sweetest rewards as that love grows or evolves into something else. Nevertheless, we cannot deny love. Whether we like it or not, love will stay in our hearts as long as we are alive.
Love may stay for as short as a moment or as long as forever. There maybe moments wherein it unfolds smoothly, while sometimes, we may experience love in tangled webs and mazes of circumstances. This could be the point wherein Love is more than what we think it is; it maybe just a door that leads us into something else, more than its primary purpose. This is where personal choices and decision comes in. The reality of it is that, Love can make or break people; it may bring out the best or worst in us. Sometimes, it may serve as a challenge to test our convictions, our faith; our sense of morality and character as well as a reminder for us to maintain a clear stand on what is right and wrong.
Looking at Love in different angles, we tend to see different views and realize various realities in the process. Love springs from our hearts to motivate us in so many ways. Love can make us reach out and care for other people, it can make us try to stretch and widen our capacity to understand and see beyond our own self, it helps us to be happy for others even if it means pain for us in some circumstance. Love can make us hold on to hope, which would slowly strengthen our faith while we slowly shred off pride and selfishness until we learn the virtue of acceptance and humility. Love can be that vessel to take us through challenges and obstacles in order for us to discover how our strength and weaknesses fare, as we battle through temptations. Love can motivate us to maintain clear, steady, and sound logical judgment, and to test how far our endurance, strength and courage may take us. In the process, we learn and discover more things about our self.
Love can be viewed as bizarre, paradoxical, or extreme, depending on how we look at it. Others call it mysterious. We sometimes need to brace ourselves with the possibility of pain and chaos although in more ways that one, all of us must have seen and felt Love in its full glory and splendor. We have to remember that love always comes with a package; it has its own entourage. Along with love come both negative and positive effects if we lose our control over it. In one way or another, we’ll feel the best and worst that Love may bring.
Love is a gift, but it doesn’t have the capacity to work on its own. Maybe some of us tend to seek the reasons why love came our way, especially at our least anticipated moment. Love could be a reason/purpose and the means, at the same time; it may seem to be constant but not quite. Some of us may chose to surrender to Love’s magic and allure that we allow our lives to be governed and dictated by Love. Sometimes, the intensity of that love is too much to handle that some chose to disregard other aspect of their person just to have that love. Blindly. The reason could be the fear of getting hurt, wounded pride, or an unbridled selfishness that strongly motivates people to be drowned and lost in love. On the other hand, others may try to suppress and deny Love for reason that they see to be more important. Maybe, these people are strong enough to endure the pain of sacrificing love in exchange of something that they deem to be equally precious. The way we welcome love into our lives is an essential factor that will shape its existence. Its fulfillment or failure relies on the willingness of people to make it happen. Its growth depends upon our faith and ability to nurture it. Its future lies in our decisions and priorities, on how we define what is acceptable and not.
Whatever terminologies, categories or theories the world has about Love, I simply look at it as something that everybody has, though it could be seen and understood in different views, in different circumstances. The only thing that is undisputable about it is that it is something that everyone feels, at one time or another towards our own self, towards something, or towards somebody. Love is the root of our every endeavor. Our motivations, goals, sacrifices, pain, happiness, and everything that keeps us going springs out from our love for something. Love is the reason why we are living, and in return, love keeps us alive.
Truly, there is no such thing as unequal, unbalance, or incomplete thing that God created because love will always make the whole picture complete. It will always fill the gaps. Love will always conquer selfishness, fear, and uncertainty. Love will always be the fuel that keeps the fire of hope, strength, and courage to go on. In any circumstance or situation, no matter what course of action we decide to take, no matter what angle we decide to look upon, as long as we believe and hold on to Love, life will always be worth living.
